Southport is a well known and much loved UK seaside town. It is found on the north-west coast of England a little to the north of Liverpool. Originally Southport was part of Lancashire but, following a boundary change, it became part of the borough of Sefton on Merseyside. Historically the town was a fishing village but, during the Victorian era, there was much investment as the area became a popular destination for day trippers. This era is well represented in the town centre with the splendid Lord Street and the arcades (Wayfarers Arcade and Cambridge Arcade). However my most favorite area is that around Churchtown and the beautiful Botanic Gardens, nothing beats an early morning walk on a hot summers day through the tranquil walkways of the gardens to the main entrance and over to Claude's Bakery for breakfast. Yes, Southport may have much to offer the visitor but you will find that there is always much more than first meets the eye.
